Unlike a standard lid-and-tray box where the lid lifts completely off, a hinged rigid box keeps the lid permanently attached to the base via a cloth or ribbon hinge bonded to the spine. How many times can the hinge be opened and closed before it wears out?
Our fabric hinges are rated for 5,000+ open-close cycles under normal use. We use a double-layer cotton-weave ribbon bonded with heat-activated adhesive, which prevents delamination at the spine even with repeated use.
Can the lid be held at a specific angle, or does it always go to 180°?
Standard hinges open fully to 180°. If you need the lid to stay at a fixed angle (for display or retail purposes), we can use a ribbon stopper or a two-part hinge with a ratchet to limit travel — tell us your target angle at the brief stage.
Can a magnetic closure be added to a hinged box?
Yes — this is one of the most popular combinations. A pair of N35 neodymium magnets embedded in the lid and base provides a satisfying, secure click-close. The magnet is completely hidden under the cover paper, with no visible hardware.
Is mirror / holographic paper structurally viable for rigid boxes?
Yes — as shown in our metallic pink sample above. Mirror and holographic specialty papers (typically 80–100 gsm with a laminated foil layer) bond cleanly to greyboard. We specify the right liner weight to prevent wrinkling at corners.
Can the inside of the lid be printed with a different design to the outside?
Absolutely — exterior and interior wraps are separate pieces of paper and can carry completely different artwork, colours, and finishes. Many brands use the lid interior for a brand story, product photography, or a contrasting accent colour.
