What Makes a Rigid Box
A rigid box is built in two distinct parts: a stiff greyboard core that gives it its permanent, non-collapsible structure, and a wrap paper layer that carries all the branding, colour, and surface finish.
Unlike folding cartons — which are die-cut and scored from a single sheet — rigid boxes are assembled flat board by flat board, then wrapped. The result is a box that holds its shape indefinitely, feels substantial in the hand, and is typically kept and reused by the end customer long after the product inside has been used.

1.0 / 1.5 / 2.0 / 2.5 mm thickness. Heavier board = more rigid feel and higher perceived value.

Interior
Wrapped in matching or contrasting paper, fabric, or left raw — with an insert fitted inside.

Rigid Box Lid Styles
The lid style defines the opening experience — and the opening experience is the first moment your customer physically interacts with your brand. Choose based on your product category, price point, and the emotional cue you want to create.
Lift-Off Lid Box
The most classic rigid box construction. The lid and base are two completely separate pieces — the lid simply lifts off the base. Clean, symmetrical, and versatile. A ribbon pull tab can be added inside the base for easy opening without disturbing the product inside.
Best for: Cosmetics, fashion accessories, gift sets, candles, jewellery, corporate gifting.
Hinged Lid Box
Lid and base are connected by a cloth or paper hinge — the box opens like a hardcover book. The one-piece construction means the lid can never be lost or separated. A magnetic or ribbon closure keeps the box shut between uses. Popular with electronics and premium cosmetics brands for its clean, modern feel.
Best for: Electronics, smartphones, headphones, high-end skincare, watches, subscription boxes.
Magnetic Closure Box
A hinged box with neodymium magnets embedded invisibly inside the lid and front panel. The magnets create a firm, satisfying snap closure without any visible hardware. The mechanism feels premium and deliberate — the kind of detail that gets noticed immediately. Magnets are available in different pull strengths depending on box weight.
Best for: Luxury retail, fragrance, gift sets, jewellery, corporate kits, any product where repeat opening is expected.
Drawer Box (Slide-Out)
An outer sleeve holds a sliding inner tray that pulls out horizontally — sometimes called a matchbox style. The drawer mechanism creates a theatrical reveal that no other box style can replicate. A ribbon tab on the inner tray makes the pull smooth and deliberate. Often used when the product needs to be presented lying flat and facing upward as it emerges.
Best for: Chocolates, jewellery, spirits, stationery, premium accessories, gift sets with multiple items.
Shoulder Box
A shoulder box has three components: a base tray, an inner shoulder (a narrow ring of board that sits around the base), and a lid that slides down over both. When the lid is lifted, the shoulder keeps it level and prevents it from falling into the base. Frequently used for spirits, perfume, and watchboxes because it gives the product a perfectly centered reveal when opened.
Best for: Spirits, wine, fragrance, watches, upmarket food gifts, any cylindrical or bottled product.

How the Outside Feels
All surface finishes below are applied in-house at our Foshan factory. Multiple finishes can be combined on a single box — for example, soft-touch lamination as the base with spot UV on the logo and gold foil on the brand name.

Matte
A flat, non-reflective film. Timelessly elegant, easy to handle. Slightly softer in colour reproduction than gloss.

Gloss
High-shine surface. Intensifies colour depth and print vibrancy. Shows fingerprints more readily than matte.
Coating
Soft-Touch
Velvety, suede-like surface that feels as premium as it looks. Highly popular with cosmetics, tech, and fashion brands. Applied over matte lamination.
Stamping
Hot Foil
Metallic foil (gold, silver, rose gold, copper, custom) heat-pressed with a die. Applied to logos, patterns, borders. Can be combined with embossing for 3D foil.
Relief
Emboss / Deboss
Embossing raises the surface; debossing presses it in. Both create tactile depth. Blind (no ink/foil) or combined with foil for maximum impact.
Varnish
Spot UV
High-gloss resin applied selectively over a matte base coat — creates a striking contrast that makes logos and details literally catch the light.

What's Inside
The interior insert holds your product securely during transit and positions it perfectly for the moment the box is opened. The right insert also communicates quality — a precision-cut EVA foam nest signals a very different brand position from a folded paper tray.
All inserts are engineered to your exact product dimensions. Send us a sample or technical drawing and we produce a prototype insert before bulk production.
EVA Foam Insert
Die-cut or CNC-routed closed-cell foam. Available in any colour. Firm, protective, and visually precise. Standard for electronics, watches, and instruments.
Velvet-Lined Tray
Cardboard tray covered in velvet or satin fabric. Soft, rich, and associated with jewellery and high-end gifts. Available in a wide range of fabric colours.
Thermoformed Plastic Tray
Vacuum-formed PET or PP tray shaped exactly to the product's contours. Lightweight, transparent or coloured. Common in cosmetics and electronics retail.
Cardboard Divider Tray
Folded and glued board wrapped in matching paper. Cost-effective for multi-item sets. Compartments can hold different products separately in one box.
Pillow / Tissue Paper
Custom-printed tissue paper or pillow fill for apparel and soft goods. Simple, cost-effective, and contributes to the unwrapping ritual.
No Insert
Interior wrapped in paper or fabric only. Suitable for bulky products that fill the box naturally, or when the customer adds their own packing material.

EVA Foam
